Radioactive waste disposal and radiation protection
Nuclear energy is expected to play an important role as a stable, affordable, and reliable complement to wind and solar power, and as a low-carbon energy source. To this end, the development of new knowledge is essential. This call focuses on research in two key areas: radiological protection and the geological disposal of radioactive waste. Within radiological protection, key themes include the protection of humans and the environment, support for policy-making and regulation, knowledge transfer to education and public outreach, as well as dosimetry and radiation dose effects. Regarding decision-making processes for geological disposal, relevant themes include justice, risk balancing, safety, knowledge management, public participation and retrievability.
